Darren Barclay Furniture Workshop
My workshop at Fairburn House is always open to visitors. You can get a feeling and flavour for my work by seeing the woodland and working environment for yourself. I work in a variety of native Scottish hardwoods sourcing mostly from the area. I can show you some amazing ash, oak, elm, birch, sycamore that has been sawn, kiln dried and prepared for specific jobs. And other timber that may just be waiting for you !
Commissioning a piece of work
If you have never commissioned a piece before its not painful ! It’s an enjoyable experience, and you’ll have been part of the process. From free-standing kitchens to bespoke furniture and interior products designed to fit into the most awkward or spacious of spaces I will hopefully offer you a comprehensive design solution. I can make furniture for any room in the home or garden.
As a designer maker I will work in partnership with you to turn your ideas, dreams or designs into a reality. If you would like me to design the furniture for you I will reflect your ideas, thoughts and aspirations producing a series of designs for you to choose from. If required, I will visit your home to discuss the project with you.
I will provide you with written quotations and a delivery date. When you are happy to proceed, I will work with you throughout the project keeping you informed of progress. If at any time you would like to visit the workshop to see your designs becoming a reality this can be arranged by prior appointment.
If you can imagine it . . . . I can probably make it for you. Good design, quality of craft and expertise creates the bridge between your ideas and the finished product. Whether you would like furniture in a traditional, contemporary or highly individual stylistic design I can hopefully make it for you. I have worked in a variety of materials including glass, metal, slate or stone and can incorporate them into individual designs. From small one-off pieces of stand- alone work to enhance your room, to furniture specially designed to functionally compliment your home I can make it for you.
